A group building what will be the world's largest and most advanced optical telescope atop Mauna Kea says the Japanese government has allocated key funding for the construction of the project. High surf combined with summer school break and thousands of visitors contributed to a high number of rescues along Oahu's South Shore Wednesday, city Ocean Safety Division officials said.
