Hurricane Hector is still churning closer to the Hawaiian islands on Tuesday as a powerful Category 4 storm to the southeast of Hawaii. Hawaii News Now.

Hector weakened slightly overnight but remains a category 4 hurricane. Located 540 miles east-southeast of Hilo and 750 miles east-southeast of Honolulu, Hector was packing maximum sustained winds of 130 mph — a drop of 15 mph from Monday night — at 5 a.m. today, according to the National Weather Service. At 2 a.m. HST on Tuesday, Aug. 7, 2018, the center of Hurricane Hector was located 585 miles ESE of Hilo, 670 miles ESE of Hana, Maui, and 705 miles ESE of Kahului, Maui (near latitude 15.9 North, longitude 147.1 West). Maui Now.
