The Pearl Harbor-based guided-missile destroyer USS Russell will leave today for an independent deployment to the Western Pacific and Middle East, the Navy announced today. Star-Advertiser.

The mostly citizen soldiers of Company C, 1st Battalion, 207th Aviation Regiment are shipping out today for a yearlong deployment that will take them first to Texas for six weeks of training and then to war-torn Iraq. Tribune-Herald.
